What is Temazcal?
Temazcal, more commonly known as sweat lodge, is a sacred ceremony which has been used for centuries in Mexico and Central America to purify the mind and body, heal the sick and provide a sacred space for women to give birth.
What happens during the ceremony?
The ceremony takes place inside the Temazcal structure. Every ritual is different but at Nada Brahma the ceremony is broken up into four doors (or sessions). The group is explained a different intention for each door. Once inside, hot volcanic rocks are placed in the center with different herbs such as sage and copal. The door is kept closed during each session. During the ceremony, water is poured over the rocks to produce steam. The facilitator holding the ceremony guides the group with drumming and chanting. A sacred space is created between everyone which is very releasing and provides the opportunity for deep integration after working with Plant Medicine.
